Communication between a medical secretary and the their consultant is imperative.

Why?

Good communication is at the heart of any good relationship. We at AJC Medical Secretary Services receive a lot of calls from patients, it is a very important aspect of our job. We really need an understanding of how consultants work within their role. Although we never comment on clinical matters, we must fully understand the complete patient process from first contact, through to discharge from hospital to recuperating at home to help patients with their telephone queries and indeed emails.

Vitally important is our engagement with our consultants. Either via telephone or email. We also make sure we meet our consultants regularly face-to-face prior and post clinics or surgery times. This enables us to obtain answers to patients queries and also consultants queries. We are the conduit between patient and consultant. We aim to provide the best possible service to both. We always work towards the best patient outcomes and offer the highest possible standard of care giving both the patient and the consultant full confidence in the system.

I remember an old TV ad, that said, “It’s good to talk” it’s not just good, it is imperative.
